Grasshopper paneling tool: Continuation of A03 project

For my grasshopper assignment, I chose to continue my morphology process of my previous project. I want to see if I could further improve form with grasshopper.

4/16/2014 V-ray Rendering Tool

Today, we learned about variety of rendering techniques in rhino. It was very exciting to experiment with different options and create a more realistic representation of objects.

Using light dome command instead of SUN command
Adding Reflection
Alteration with glossiness (Reduce glossiness to make it more realistic)

Mimic glass material (refractive)
Glass material

Wood material ( with reflection layer)
Adding bump to imitate material texture

EXERCISE: Adding marble texture to the object
I am very excited to learn about how I can apply material on an object and present it realistically. It makes the object more tangible. It is a very valuable class. I am sure I will use it for future studio class when I produce digital perspectives for my projects.

Grasshopper Assignment in Progress

GRASSHOPPER ASSIGNMENT IN PROGRESS

I worked on grasshopper paneling tool over the weekend but did not remember to post it on the blog. I tried to organize it a little bit on the indesign. I will add the text and the grasshopper system below as well!

I wanted to have a bass so it is structurally stable. I want to revisit the paneling screen I did for last assignment and experiment with creating another wave morphology for the next round. :)

Grasshopper: creating Geometry

Today, I practice creating different geometry with basic commands on grasshopper. It ran into couple dead ends for many times until I actually take my time the take the instruction from the "hint" (or the alternative description) that rhinos provide.

Simple Geometry

Cylinder

Sphere
I began with simple geometry. I played with the number slider to alter the radius/height/ length.

Array along Curve

I used the array from the transformation section for these iterations. I definitely had more fun playing with changing planes, geometry, and number slider.

Array along Circle

From a Grasshopper Tutorial

I also went on youtube to find some fundamental tutorial for grasshopper. I was able to find the one about lofting different shapes of circular geometry into a vertical tube. It was very complex and difficult to remember, but it was a fun experience to go along with the tutorial.

The Digital Turn in Architecture: Page one

This is my attempt of diagraming first page of the reading. It turned out to be more of a Illustrator/Photoshop exercise for me. I tried to use symbolic forms to represent the concepts the first four paragraphs are presenting. I explored different tools in illustrator and photoshop to create my own visual interpretation of the reading. I will go back to add some more diagrams/photographs I found from a architecture firm called 24 Studio. They have a lot of morphogenetic designs that include the aspects of hierarchical arrangement, environmental inspiration, material constraints, and functional capacity.
